MINI HYDROPOWER DEVELOPMENT FOR MURHU BLOCK

Murhu scheme was identified to serve Murhu block. It is planned to be  located on Tajna nadi which is a tributary to Karo river.  A series of sites on the river were identified for cascade development in stages. The first site is located at Murhu falls which is 22m in height. The effect of lake spread was verified with respect to impacts.

 The drainage network of the basin was prepared and hydrology was worked out by transferring from adjacent basin. Several site visits were made to fix weir location and penstock alignment.

DROP IN RIVER

A Rockfill dam with spillway was designed. A Francis type turbine was selected and a simple power house designed. Quantity and cost estimates were prepared. The transmission route was established with tie to Murhu block headquarters. The project was found to be very economical and would bring reliable power to the Block.

Geological investigations showed the area to be stable and adequate source of construction materials in the area were identified.

SECTION OF POWER HOUSE

Among the villages which would get power are Binda, Sidu, Siangkel, Bamarda, Selda, Maliada, Kurki, Kolamba, Bande, Tumbakel Dudri, Murhu, Chamratoli, Guratoli, Surunda, Toner, Bahmni, Gurhami, Korakel and Jate. The lake would also provide water for irrigation to the nearby fields.
